The ODCD Easter Service held at Cox Green witnessed Katie’s first sermon and celebrated Vera Hunt MBE as she was offered cards and flowers to note her 25th anniversary of priesting.
Katie reflected upon Jesus as being on the margins:
“His teaching was a message of liberation and salvation – to those on the margins.
His miraculous encounters with broken people were with those on the margins.
His support group were women – whose gender placed them on the margins.
His death was as a criminal and outside the walls of the city – on the margins.
His resurrection happened on the margins.”
Noting to all of us who feel marginalised by society, “To be on the margins, to feel at the very edge of things, is actually to discover that we are in the presence of Jesus!"
As the service ended, we surprised Vera with a card signed over the weeks by members of the Deaf Churches, and a bunch of flowers to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her priesting.
